Guide to obtaining a birth certificate

Instructions for quickly requesting a birth certificate

The birth certificate is an official document issued by the Civil Registry Office of the Municipality of birth or by the one where the act was subsequently registered.

This document is essential for various administrative, legal, and inheritance procedures, such as declaration of succession, citizenship procedures, enrollment in school or university, passport applications, or updating registry records.

Upon the applicant's authorization, the Agenzia delle Successioni will forward the request. to the competent municipal offices, taking care of every stage of the process until the document is delivered. The Agenzia delle Successioni can assist you with requests for birth certificates in Rome or Milan, or anywhere else in Italy.

What is the difference between a birth certificate and a birth extract?

The substantial difference between the two documents lies in the composition of the information contained within. The birth certificate contains the name and surname, date of birth, and the number and date of the birth certificate issued by the Municipality. The birth certificate also contains the time of birth, the names of the parents, and information regarding the marital status of the individual in question (such as marriage and/or divorce).

What is the purpose of the birth certificate extract?

The birth certificate extract is not directly connected to inheritance procedures, as it is not a fundamental document for the inheritance declaration. Nonetheless, the birth certificate extract can be useful in reconstructing the family tree of the heir and the deceased, thus certifying the blood relationship between certain individuals.
