Guide to obtaining an AIRE residency certificate

Guide to obtaining an AIRE residency certificate

Instructions for quickly requesting an AIRE residency certificate

The AIRE residence certificate is an official document issued by the Registry Office of the Italian municipality where you are registered with AIRE (Registry of Italians Resident Abroad).

It certifies that the Italian citizen is registered with AIRE and specifies the country and address of foreign residence, as recorded in the municipal archives.

The certificate contains the interested party's complete personal details, the relevant Italian municipality, the foreign country of residence and the date of registration with AIRE.

It is an essential document for various legal and inheritance procedures, both in Italy and abroad.

Here is the guide to requesting the AIRE residency certificate online through the Agenzia delle Successioni.

How to obtain an AIRE residency certificate online?

With the Agenzia delle Successioni, you can request and receive the AIRE residency certificate completely online, without having to contact the Municipality or Consulate.

The service is aimed at Italian citizens residing abroad, and their heirs, who need to obtain official documents for inheritance.

To submit the request you must:

  1. Download the forms at the bottom of the page (Delegation and Privacy Policy).
  2. Fill them out and sign them , selecting “AIRE Residence Certificate” as the document type.
  3. Send the documentation to the email address segreteria@agenziadellesuccessioni.it , attaching the identity documents and tax codes of the heir and the deceased.

Once the documents are received, the Agenzia delle Successioni will verify the request and send a personalized quote based on the required certificates.

By relying on the Agenzia delle Successioni, you can obtain the AIRE residency certificate quickly, safely and traceably, even if you are abroad, avoiding direct contact with Italian municipal offices.

The main advantages of the service:

  1. No need to travel to Italy
  2. Reduction of waiting times
  3. Complete digital management, from request to certificate delivery

Who issues the AIRE residency certificate?

The AIRE residence certificate is issued by the Italian municipality where the citizen is registered in the Registry of Italians Resident Abroad .

Through formal delegationthe Agenzia delle Successioni can forward the request to the competent Municipality and transmit the certificate directly to the applicant, in digital format.

What documents are needed to register with AIRE?

The AIRE registration request form is usually completed online. It must be signed by all adult family members, and by both parents for minors.

Additionally, a copy of a valid Italian passport and/or Italian identity card (front and back) must be submitted. If you don't have Italian documents, a foreign identity document with full personal details, or proof of Italian citizenship, may be accepted.

A document must be attached for each family member you wish to enroll.

Proof of residency abroad is also required. A recent document (often no older than 3 months) certifying actual residency in the consular district, in the applicant's name, is therefore required.

In addition to the AIRE residence certificatethe Agenzia delle Succesioni can obtain on your behalf the registry and civil status certificatesrecords and official documents necessary for the inheritance declaration.
